Benchmarking and Building of an IT Roadmap

Vigier is one of the leading Swiss manufacturers and suppliers of cement, sand, gravel, ready-mixed concrete, concrete products, rail- way construction products, as well as waste management solutions. Vigier is comprised of Vigier Ciment, Vigier Beton, Vigier Rail, Creabeton and Altola.

The business model of Vigier involves an active role in the closing of gaps in the construction industry. In all five business units Vigier utilizes waste products as recyclable materials, from which new and sustainable products are produced.

Just to name a few examples, Altola produces alternative fuels, Vigier Ciment produces sustainable binding agents, and Vigier Beton produces recycled concrete. Since 2001, Vigier is part of the French Vicat Group and today employs a workforce of approx. 1‘100.

Vigier was looking for a partner to conduct a benchmarking of the capabilities of their internal IT infrastructure
by a third party. The objective was to examine if the value contribution of information technology to the business performance of the various areas of business could be increased.

Based on a comprehensive level of knowledge in specialized areas of information technology topics and hands-on experience with the successful establishment and development of IT organizations in various leadership roles wit- hin IT and operations, the company chose Panoff Consulting.

In the course of a pragmatic but systematic analysis phase, the needs of the various business areas were identified and evaluated through in- depth interviews for one part. For another part Panoff Consulting examined the information technology processes, the deployed architecture and the resulting need for necessary adjustments to be able to increase the value contribution to the business performance of Vigier.

The 7-Point Plan

Based on the analysis, Panoff Consulting with the collaboration of Vigier, compiled a 7-point plan that contributes to the following improvements in results over a 3-year period:

  • Improved Alignment between Business Operations and IT
Through the consistent alignment of IT services with the business requirements, the focus of information technology on business operations was significantly increased.
  • Optimized Utilization of Resources (Personnel and Money)
The utilization of IT resources is specifically planned and aligned in cooperation between business operations and IT. This ensures that precisely the kind of projects are implemented that realize the greatest overall benefit
  • Increased Performance and Stability of the IT Environment
The realistic and specific 7-point plan allowed Vigier to work on the necessary measures in a very short time and to quickly realize initial improvements. During the implementation, the specialists of Panoff Consulting contributed to this effort based on each situation and the particular need of Vigier and made their experience readily available to Vigier.
